Staff Changes at WJK
Davis Perkins, longtime president and publisher of the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, resigned from his position this past May. Perkins leaves PPC to head Church Publishing, Inc., the official publisher of worship materials for the Episcopal Church. In his place, the board of directors announced the appointment of Marc Lewis, who has served as senior vice president and general manager since 1999, as acting president and publisher until a permanent replacement for Perkins is found.
More recently, David Dobson was named acting director of publishing. Dobson has been with PPC since 1999 and has served as director of product management since 2004. He acted as renowned scholar Tom (N.T.) Wright’s editor for the U.S. introduction of his For Everyone series of New Testament commentaries; acquired the best-seller The Gospel according to The Simpsons and helped revive the Press’s franchise, The Gospel according To series; and was among the initial developers of TheThoughtfulChristian.com, a popular new online resource center for church educators.
In addition, Rev. Dr. Jon Berquist has been promoted to executive editor, biblical studies, and Rev. Dr. Donald K. McKim has been promoted to executive editor, theology and reference.
McKim has been with PPC since 2000 as academic and reference editor. He is one of the most distinguished scholars and authors in the field of Reformed theology and is the author of such classic works as The Encyclopedia of the Reformed Faith; The Westminster Dictionary of Theological Terms; and Presbyterian Questions, Presbyterian Answers. He has served as academic dean and professor of theology at Memphis Theological Seminary and as professor of theology at Dubuque Theological Seminary.
Berquist rejoined PPC in 2003 as senior editor for biblical studies. He had previously served as an editor at Chalice Press and, before that, was a member of the WJK editorial team from 1994 to 1997. He is a respected scholar and author of several books and is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He has taught Old Testament at Phillips Graduate Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Jersey.
With these changes, PPC looks forward to continued growth while maintaining its commitment to publishing resources that “advance religious scholarship, stimulate conversation about moral values, and inspire faithful living.”
